A Week in Pictures

I know I am a little late in my updates from the Thanksgiving break... But I was having issues with my camera phone pictures. No need to worry, they have been resolved.
The past week was crazy! With Breaking Dawn midnight premieres and a party thrown by my fabulous mother & Sister, to traveling to Utah for one of my best friends wedding, to performing my Maid of Honor duties with expertise, to stuffing myself full 'til I thought I actually might need to get my stomach pumped.

So here it is... A week in pictures.

A Bit of Etiquette I Have Learned

Soooooo here is the deal.

Being handicapped the past few weeks has taught me A LOT of lessons. Don't worry... I'll try to keep this from going to a full on rant. But these are some things that just HAVE to be said and shared.

Photobucket
Me coming back from a pretty cool person's work event. Crutches, sadly, are conversation starters.
1. IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. Do not ask random people what injury they have or how they did it.

*Unless they bring it up to you, don't ask. I can not tell you how many random people- who would even go out of their way- came up to me to ask this question. I can't go ANYWHERE without a stranger asking. I'm sorry... Do I know you? It would make me irate. So... I caved in and told them I was a professional kick boxer who you could order on pay per view. I'm legit, no worries. Well at least they think so.

2. I will never use a handicap bathroom unless it is completely necessary.

*Sadly the first week, I had major issues even attempting to use the bathroom. Do you know how many of your leg muscles you use to just pull your freaking pants down? Quite a bit. The handicap rails are there for a reason. For people who need them. Three times I almost peed my pants waiting while some Chick just wanted a spacier place to use the bathroom and take phone pictures of herself with the toilet cropped out. We can see the flash hunny.

3. Do NOT, under any circumstances, give your looks of apology, apathy, or pity in my direction

*...as I am minding my own business crutching along. This might not bother others but for me, the continual "I feel SO sorry for you", "That doesn't look fun", or my personal favorite... "Oh, Bless your heart" just stirs up the anger and broiling in my veins. No, its not fun... but look at the arm muscles I am toning. Thanks for your comment stranger but no thanks. Too hostile? apologies.

4. Please, please, please... Do not cut off a person in a wheelchair, on crutches, or a big boot on their foot.

*It seriously takes all my concentration to ensure I get from point A to point B without any mishap. You, while paying more attention to your phone or the sky and running into my injured self only makes me want to beat you with my crutch. Seriously... But then I would go to jail for aggravated assault and then where would we be?

5. Be sensitive of the matter if need be, otherwise continue to treat me the same.

*Yes, it's nice when you have others who are mindful when you need help with the door or carrying something. That's fine- you're not making a huge charade out of it. But otherwise I am still the same old me. Please treat me the same.

And there you have it. A few lessons of "etiquette/rantings" I have learned that I am sharing from me to you. Hope we all learned something from this experience.

Happy Tuesday

Music Monday - Sia

Happy Monday Everyone! Welcome back to reality. Today's Music Monday post will be short and sweet.

This is one song that I have not been able to get out of my head. Breathe Me by SIA. One thing that helps me pass the time or get away from everyday life is to just listen to some good music, daydream, and escape. This song is one of my escapes.
Sia has an edgy, clear, and powerful voice that hits the right nerves everytime. Seriously, to me her voice is mesmerizing.
This Austrailian artist has a real jazz feel to her. Her eccentric style and tastes always keeps her image fresh and unique too. I like how she hasn't conformed to the norm.

I remember trying to deal with life when I used to live in Idaho. At my worst moments I would take a long drive through the farms and mountains where nothing and no one were visible as far as the eye could see. I would play this song along with others that would calm me down. You can really conform your hardships to this song - It can be interpreted in so many ways. After hours of an escape, I would come back and able to deal with life quietly and tastefully.

When no one understands you, music can.

Awkward and Awesome: Flashback Edition

So as this is my first Awkward & Awesome Thursday, I thought I would begin with a little background information as to why I am so more awkward than awesome - even though my level of awesomeness is awesome.
Moving on. Flashback. I was SOoooooooo Awkward in middle school and the beginning of high school. Like literally... to the point where I have flashbacks that are so embarrassing that I start singing without realizing to block them out of my memory instantaneously. Really... Singing.

Let me recount the ones that still haven't been suppressed - I was an odd one

Awkward Flashback:
- Lying to the cool girls when they asked if I got highlights and telling them I got only one. Really? One highlight? I really got a bunch.
-Going through this way too long phase of putting TONS of glitter on my eyelids. The trend lasted 3 weeks. I think I did it for 3 months.
-Wanting to show off my "mad" singing skills and really be overheard by cute boys on the bus, I would sing to my school bus seating partner... like singing, A Little Mermaid's "A Whole New World". That poor girl.
-I was a MAJOR choir nerd (but am still dang proud of it). I would wear the t-shirts with music notes and symbols and one liners from random songs.
-Confronting the cool girls and "setting them straight" for claiming one of my guy friends liked them. I was apparently "protective". It was so awkward.
-Wore my hair in a ponytail EVERYDAY because I didn't know how to tame the beast.
-Braces + really bad fashion sense. You do the math.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket

Awesome Flashback:
-Finding my place with some AMAZING friends end of my sophomore year of high school.
-Discovering the invention of a hair straightener.
-Getting rid of baby acne... Hey we're being honest here.
-Realizing I was actually pretty cool.
-Dating a guy who was in college while I was still in high school. That was a big move in my coolness factor.
-Seriously... making lifelong friends who I still am close with today.
-Having chorus be a pretty cool thing - we were pretty dang good
-Getting my license and a bad A car named Tyrone
-Becoming pretty okay with how awkward & Awesome I was at the same time.

And there you have it. Please note, this is the FIRST time I have shared majority/all of these suppressed awkward moments. Happy Thursday everyone!

Come to the Dark Side and a confession

So I finally gave into my screaming inner alter ego and went to the dark side. Thank you for everyone's comments and advice on my deliberation. As the change of a new season has come, change for myself was also needed.

Photobucket

So please tell me what you think!
Yes the blonde was fun, attention grabbing, and more me, but I am really liking this for right now. Change is good. I have heard completely mixed reviews from "Ah! I love it!" to... "Um... Please go back blonde." Once spring rolls around again, I am sure I will go back to the bubbly blonde.
It is so wierd how much a simple thing like a haircut or color change can change how you feel about yourself or your perceptions. Have you ever had that happen? Even down to a new outfit or other less drastic changes.

Photobucket

****I also want to say THANK YOU for everyone's sweet and amazing comments about my knee! WOW. Seriously everyone, thank you! I have read each and every single one of your comments and you have no idea how much they have helped me get through the hard days of this adjusment period. It's so easy to have little self pity moments but you guys have kept me positive.

Seriously... many self pity moments. But at the end of the day this is just a hiccup and in the grand scheme of things, I have so much more to be grateful for. Like the ability to walk or go up stairs for one. Not to mention, what a great conversation starter crutches are. It's so sad.
I also want to say thanks to everyone for taking a moment of your day to stop by this blog. I really started commiting to it a couple weeks ago and it is such a good release for everything. I truly enjoy getting to stop by your space that's all yours and read about your life, successes, trials, love of whatever, and just getting to know you.
Every comment and new follower seriously makes my day. So I hope we can grow this little blog and I look forward sharing more things with you guys!

Music Monday - Miike Snow

Happy Monday all you beautiful people! Hope everyone's weekend was amazing and enjoyable!- I hope you all are ready for Music Monday because the time has come again.

So at the suggestion of a pretty awesome guy I know (We just can't let him know that), I decided to feature this group today.

Miike Snow

Miike Snow's style is just pure awesomeness. Seriously. Even though I was just recently introduced to them, I can't get their songs out of my head. They have been described as having an electronic/indie pop feel to them - but whatever your taste in music is, their talent is undeniable. The lyrics are just plain cool, the beats are hypnotic, and the singing is the charismatic cherry on top.

Yes, this Swedish group consists of three men and not just one guy. Fun fact if you're ready... The name of their group came from a a friend of theirs- an assistant engineer of a video they had all worked on out in L.A. They then modified the spelling of Mike to Miike inspired by their like of the Japanese film director Takashi Miike.

Side note, I'm partial to this group now because I am part Swedish and part Japanese. Cool story.

These guys are pretty awesome. Read a short interview with them here and enjoy!

Things I Do On Morphine: Squirm Alert

Happy Thursday! If you dont have the full time to read... Please skip to the most embarssing points of the story below the pics...

As promised... I will divulge why I did not write a post on Tuesday. Many Apologies again. As some of you know, I am on a city Kickball Team - Go BallRockers!- that plays once a week against teams in our league. We have been pretty much undefeated all season and Monday was tournament time.

We had won our first game and were in the 6th inning of the second. I was covering second base and we were doing our best to hold them. Next thing I know, There is a runner coming from first, I turn to catch the ball for an easy out then jfsoidafjnsdciopsdajerao. The runner slides into second, takes me out.. then I feel it. Insert Curse word here. My knee completely shifts out of place. I dislocated me knee ccompletely out of place.

I fall to the ground and scream in pain... Grab my knee, and curl into the fetal position. So natural right? Another curse word. Never before had I felt so much pain. The thoughts of "get me drugs now!", "Put me out of my misery", and "make it stop" went through my mind over and over again.
You could immediately see how out of place it was. It looked incredible and awful at the same time. It was no bueno.

Because of how our field is positioned, we had to call an ambulance. After an eternity and yelling to the other team that we automatically win because of this, the paramedics show up. I am not going to lie, a piece of me was sad that these weren't hot men. They start looking for veins to give me the elixir of life- morphine..

Then I hear... "Are you alive? You have NO veins!"... Seriously? 30 minutes goes by on the field... I am in shock, shaking, in pain, and just want the morphine. Then I hear the dreaded words... "forget it, lets get her to the hospital".. What? Give me morphine NOW! You have been sticking me over and over again I deserve something! Finally, we get in the ambulance. The last try (after EIGHT attempts) finally works and I get the pain soldier that battles the bad stuff away. Story continued after pictures... it gets good

Photobucket

Can I please profess my hatred of crutches? Thanks. THEY'RE AWFUL!!!
Moving on.......So after a second dose of morphine wonderfulness... I begin singing to the entire hospital staff... Lets please note all the embarassing moments:

1. Singing "Brother for Sale" by Mary-Cate and Ashley Olsen
2. Crying! and professing my love for the Olsen Twins. Yes, crying
3. Telling the X-ray tech he looks like the scarecrow man from batman and maybe hitting on him
4. Singing Queen's Bohemian Rahpsody at the top of my lungs
5. Telling the male nurse he had major "Swag" with his Gucci glasses
6. Singing "I believe I can Fly" from Space Jam
7. Telling my dad that another boy thought my Butt looked awesome in the pants they just cut
8. Asking to be carried like a princess so that we could be like Shrek and Pheona and live as happy ogres in the forest of love
9. Free-Style rapping that went something like "My dad is trippin.. he's pimpin..."... Yah
10. Shooting invisible webs from my wrist at people because I was SpiderMan

And there you have it. Please let the sympathy pour in.

Oh Happy Day

So Apologies that I was unable to post yesterday... You will find out why in my next post. Cliffhanger - I know.
So today I am amazed by how fast time goes by. Yesterday, my youngest brother turned 5! Crazy Crazy Crazy. I can still remember when he could barely say my name and was still learning how to walk. Today he is filled with attitude and wit that still baffles me everyday.
I was 18 when he was born... old enough to pretty much be his mom. And even though I am not his mom, I can't help but have a maternal demeanor towards him. He is my little boy, the one who cheers me up with a smile, the one who has magic hugs and eskimo kisses, the one who is impossible to reason with and sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out.
Little Tanner is such a blessing in my life and brings so much happiness into my world. So for his fifth birthday, we celebrated with homemade mini pizzas, cupcakes, and some family goodness.

Happy 5th Birthday Little Man!

Music Monday - Band of Horses

Hey there people! So I have been thinking... Last week my Ra Ra Riot post got a lot of good feedback (sidenote you guys are awesome)-and a lot of comments agreeing that there really isn't a whole lot of MUSIC that is spoken about in the blogging community. So I have decided that each week, I want to feature an artist or band for you guys. I am thinking about Mondays... Any objections?

I have a wide range of tastes when it comes music. So hopefully I can spread the word about these worthy artists and hear about some new ones that come through you guys. I am always open to suggestions. I honestly love music and need to get better about branching out further from what I am comfortable with. I really can't even listen to the radio anymore because most of it is just crap. Music has a way of speaking to us in a personal way. I can hear a song and literally listen to it on repeat for hours. It balances your mood, hightens or calms your energy, shares with you a feeling you thought you were alone in, and speaks words to you that are needed for you in the moment. So without further ado....

This week's mention.... Band of Horses.

This group is incredible and their music is completely different than other groups and has a true, organic style. I could seriously listen to them for days - and have. Its a feel good chill music that is perfect for just about any mood- minus going to the club. Anyways, please check them out and let me know what ya think!

Finally Friday

So... Can I please just start off by saying thanks to everyone for all the comments on yesterday's post?? You guys are perfectly awesome. They made my entire day and now I feel fearless.

Oh and may I please share with you an embarassing story that happened yesterday? Please??... Okay thanks... Here it is. (Oh and if you don't have time to read this little story which sums up my life.. skip to the next half for some good stuff)

Right as I was leaving work, the sky-with its laughing senese of humor - decided to start pouring down rain. Naturally I was having the best hair day prior to this prank. Of course, my car was parked on the 7th floor of the furthest parking deck and the elevators of the parking deck were FREEZING. Seriously... think ice box. All I can do is think about getting in my car and blasting the heat.
Level 5, 6, 6 1/2..... eerkjoaidjoigj;a. The elevator stops. And despite all my efforts of button pushings, "C'MON!!!", and scoffs, I was stuck.
Luckily there was a little call button in the elevator... "Hello.. Yes.. Im stuck... this is where I am.... yes that parking deck.. yes this elevator number...um hello?".... Click.
Call again.... same thing.
Call again.... same thing.

Now im starting to lose it. Finally I call again and demanded that I be saved. "Is this going to take a while?"... "Yup".. "great".... to finish up this lovely story... the maintenance people finally come to my rescue and set me free. Awkward. Thank you rescue people.. you rescued me well...and control line people... were you really just messing with me? Story of my life.

Waiting, waiting, and waiting...
Photobucket

Okay moving on.... Time for some needed words of advice (from you) and some good news. I am continually playing with the look of this beloved blog and want to know what everyone likes best for aesthetic purposes. I would love your advice, your tips and tricks, or what you would like to see more of. Be harsh, be honest... Im ready for it

And there is a rumor going around that once the number of 50 followers is reached... there will be a GIVEAWAY. With that... I want to know what giveaways you all are interested in... I can be pretty giving.

Happy Friday
